    Getting better voices

LivingSpeech uses the voices installed on your device. The ones that come pre-installed are often the most robotic. Higher quality voices are a free download.

    iPhone and iPad

    1. Open the Settings app and go to Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices. On newer versions of iOS, Spoken Content may be called Read & Speak.
    2. Tap your language, then a voice.
    3. Voices marked Enhanced or Premium sound the most natural. Tap the download button next to one. Premium voices can be a few hundred megabytes, so use Wi‑Fi.
    4. When the download finishes, close LivingSpeech completely (swipe it away in the app switcher) and open it again. The new voice will be in this list.

Apple doesn't make Siri voices or Personal Voice available to web apps, so they won't appear here.

    Android

Voices come from your text-to-speech engine. Look in Settings › Accessibility › Text-to-speech output (the location varies by phone), open the engine's settings, and install voice data for your language.

    Add to your home screen

LivingSpeech works like an app once it's on your home screen: it opens full screen, works without an internet connection, and keeps itself up to date.

    iPhone and iPad

    1. Open LivingSpeech.fyi in Safari.
    2. Tap the Share button . In Safari it's at the bottom of the screen, or at the top on iPad. You may need to tap ⋯ first.
    3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
    4. Tap Add.

On iOS 16.4 and later, Chrome and Edge can do this too, from their own Share button.

    Android

    1. Open LivingSpeech.fyi in Chrome.
    2. Tap the menu button ⋮ in the top right corner.
    3. Tap Add to Home screen or Install app, then Install.

Other browsers, like Samsung Internet and Firefox, have a similar option in their menu.
